It's September 12. For the Medicare industry, that means preseason is underway.

Conference rooms are filling up. Marketing teams are making plans. Television campaigns are being debated. Insurance agents are getting ready for one of the busiest times of the year.

And millions of seniors are getting ready to make an important decision about their health coverage.

Every fall, people compare Medicare plans for the coming year. They look at premiums, doctors, prescriptions, benefits, networks, and a long list of details that can be difficult to compare. And because the decision matters, many people understandably want to talk to someone.

But talking to someone shouldn’t be the only way to understand your choices.

I’ve listened to smart, thoughtful retirees who purchased a plan after a 45-minute phone call, then called back a few days later and changed their minds. Some talked to another agent and changed their minds again. Others went back to the first agent and switched one more time—all before Thanksgiving.

I don't think that means they're indecisive.

I think it means Medicare is complicated, the stakes are high, and people deserve a better way to compare their options.
